Rodeo

Student Reflections and Writing

"This work is important so the young kids can learn about how they let Treaty 7 First Nations show their culture and so people all over the world can learn about why Guy Weadick wanted to start the Stampede. We needed the Stampede to keep our culture going and to stop it from dying. I feel a little like an elder and storyteller telling because I get to talk about our People’s story of how we used to live in the older days."

"Imagine a day that you are an historian and you are telling a story. I am an historian and this is my story. Let’s go back in time. I am really excited to see the rodeo. It is Stampede now. Tom Three Persons is riding Cyclone. 129 people fell off Cyclone so Cyclone was really famous. His way to get people off was bucking them. But Tom Three Persons yelled so Cyclone went down and he rode him around. If you didn’t have historians like me you wouldn’t know the story."

Aaron - Grade 2 student
