Tom Three Persons

"I am Tom Three Persons and this is my story. I have watched 129 people get bucked off Cyclone. Now I have to ride Cyclone. I hope I make it. Now he is trying to buck me off. I know I can yell “YEE HAW!” Phew, he didn’t buck me off."

Liam- Grade 1 student

"Tom Three Persons was the first Native Cowboy in the Stampede to win a medal in the rodeo. The Stampede started in 1912. Back in 1912 the Stampede was in September. I think it was because it was harvest time. When I was at Stampede I saw a large mural that represents Tom Three Persons riding Cyclone. Tom Three Persons watched 129 Cowboys mistakes while they were riding so when Tom Three Persons rode Cyclone and Cyclone tried to buck him off he yelled. Cyclone was startled and came back down and started to run. For riding Cyclone, Tom Three Persons got a medal and a belt. The belt buckle was made out of silver and the belt part was made out of cow skin. When Tom Three Persons passed away, his family gave it to the Glenbow for safe keeping"

"I am Tom Three Persons and this is my story. I watched 129 people ride Cyclone and saw their mistakes. Then I got on Cyclone and started to yell. It scared Cyclone. He went down and started to run. I was successful and I won a silver medal and a belt. It was made of silver and leather. They were very valuable to me."

"I am a mural and this is my story. I feel very important as a mural because lots of people have seen me. I tell a story of a cowboy and how he rode Cyclone. Lots of people tried to ride Cyclone but do you know how many people tried to ride him? 129 people tried to ride Cyclone."

Georgia- Grade 1 student

"I am Tom Three Persons. Come and listen to my story. I watched 129 people try and fail riding Cyclone. I learned from their mistakes. When I rode and Cyclone bucked, I yelled and Cyclone got scared so he started running everywhere. I held on tight and I won. I won a medal and belt. My name is on my belt and medal. I was the first Native person to win at the Stampede at the rodeo. I have a large mural at the Stampede in Calgary. The Stampede used to be in September but now it is in July"

Alannah- Grade 2 student
