Tom Three Persons has Won

A Canadian WinsA Canadian Wins

Once and for all Tom Three Persons clinches first place at the Calgary Stampede. As he saw all the other cowboys lose, he thought he could give it a try and got on the toughest horse he could and refused to be beat.

The horse was named Cyclone. Some people said Cyclone was not to be ridden but when Cyclone entered everyone was excited to see the ride. He became the best black bronco at the competition to watch.

When Tom got on, he clenched the reins and pulled the cinch tight. He made sure his cowboy hat was on tight and said, “Let him go!”

Fans said Cyclone was throwing everything at Tom, but Tom kept hitting Cyclone. Cyclone got really mad and tried to kick Tom off but Tom wouldn’t let up.

Eventually Cyclone gave up and stood still. Some fans said it lasted a long time.

Tom Three Persons is the first Canadian to win a real live rodeo at what is being called “The Greatest Show on Earth!”

Tom is not only Canadian but is an Indian from the Blood Reserve. He has overcome many stereotypes to compete in this event. In fact, it would not be possible without the dedication of Guy Weadick and his pressure on the Canadian Government to make this happen.

Tom is sure to be a hero to many rodeo cowboys to come, Native or not!
