High Quality Work: Writing and Drawing in Science with Early Learners

In this collaboratively designed task, grade 2 students became experts on the little Brown Bat that makes its home in their community of the Bow Valley.  Recognizing that many people fear these tiny creatures, students became advocates and educators championing for the care and respect of this important mammal. Through intentional scaffolding, students developed a deep understanding of the role the Brown Bat plays in the ecosystem. In order to share their understanding with the broader community, they were tasked with producing high quality writing and scientific drawings.
